SQL editor
Write, run, and format SQL with Monaco-powered autocomplete and a full query log.
The SQL editor is powered by the engine behind VS Code — Monaco — so it feels like your IDE: syntax highlighting, context-aware completion, multi-cursor editing, and search.
Running queries#
⌘ Enter/Ctrl+Enterruns the statement under the cursor; highlight a block first to run exactly that selection.- Multiple editor tabs can be open at once — against different connections or different databases.
- Queries run on a dedicated connection pool, so a long analytical query never blocks a quick lookup on the same connection.
- Results appear in the grid below the editor with row and column counts and the query's timing. From there you can sort, filter, and export.
- A long-running query on a remote database can be cancelled from the editor toolbar.
Autocomplete & formatting#
Completion is grounded in the connected database — table names, column names, and SQL keywords — and updates as you switch connections. When a query has grown messy, format it in place with Option+Shift+F (macOS) or Alt+Shift+F (Windows/Linux).
The query log#
Every statement you run is kept in a searchable SQL log with its timing. Need the query from ten minutes ago? Open the log, find it, and re-run it — no archaeology in your shell history.
Statement behavior follows the engine: on SQL Server, SET, USE, and #temp tables carry over between statements on the same connection, the way SSMS behaves.
Troubleshooting#
- Query hangs — check the connection is still reachable; cancel from the toolbar and retry.
- Syntax errors — the editor highlights SQL syntax but doesn't validate against your schema ahead of time; errors from the database itself are shown after the run.
