Troubleshooting & FAQ

Answers to the most common questions and failures.

Frequently asked questions#

Is rdSQL free and open source?#

Yes — rdSQL Desktop is MIT-licensed open source. If it's useful to you, star it on GitHub and consider sponsoring development.

Does it send my queries or credentials anywhere?#

No. Connections are direct from your machine to the database; the AI assistant calls the provider you configure, with your key, directly. See Account, sync & privacy.

How does the app bypass CORS?#

CORS is a web-browser rule. rdSQL runs as a native desktop application in a Tauri web view shell — database connections are made by the Rust backend, outside the browser sandbox, so CORS never applies.

Which engines support backup and compare?#

Backup & restore works on the SQL engines (PostgreSQL, Neon, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, DuckDB, Cloudflare D1, CockroachDB, YugabyteDB, TiDB, PlanetScale, SQL Server). MongoDB and Redis are browsable and editable but not backup sources/targets yet. Compare & Sync covers the SQL engines except SQL Server sources.

Does restore work with pg_dump / mysqldump files?#

Yes — restore runs scripts made by pg_dump, mysqldump, and mariadb-dump, including COPY ... FROM stdin data, psql meta-commands (skipped), and raw binary values. Files are streamed a few megabytes at a time, so dump size doesn't matter.

Common problems#

macOS says the app "is damaged" or from an "unidentified developer"#

The build isn't Apple-notarized yet. Clear the quarantine flag and open again:

bash
xattr -cr /Applications/rdSQL.app

Windows SmartScreen blocks the installer#

Choose Run anyway — see Installation.

Connection fails immediately#

Double-check host, port, and credentials; whether the database requires SSL (SSL Mode); and whether it's only reachable through an SSH bastion (Security & SSH tab). Per-engine notes: PostgreSQL family, MySQL family, SQL Server, D1.

SQLITE_AUTH (code 7500) on Cloudflare D1#

That's Cloudflare blocking queries against its internal _cf_% system tables. rdSQL filters them from the explorer; if you reference them directly in SQL, Cloudflare itself refuses.

Check for Updates says "Could not check for updates"#

Fixed in v1.3.0 — the check used to report a failure when you were already up to date. Update to the latest release and it won't come back.

Still stuck?#

Open an issue on github.com/rdsqlhq/rdsql/issues with what you did, what happened, and which engine — or start a thread in Discussions.
